Diane, 61, and Margaret, 82, are two incredible members of the Gym & Trim community who joined the over 60s class looking to improve their health, fitness, and enjoy something new together.
The Challenge
Before joining, the gym was completely new territory — especially for Margaret, who had never stepped foot in one before.
Like many people, there were doubts about whether they’d be able to keep up, learn the movements, or stick with it long-term.
Why They Nearly Didn't Start
They both thought it might be short-lived.
In fact, there was a feeling it might only last a couple of weeks before giving up.
And when you’re surrounded by younger people, it’s easy to question whether you’ll be able to do the same things.
The Turning Point
But from the very beginning, something clicked.
The sessions were fun, welcoming, and full of laughter.
There was no pressure — just encouragement, support, and a shared goal to keep improving.
Week by week, they built confidence, learned new movements, and realised they were far more capable than they first thought.
The Results
Since joining, Diane and Margaret have:
Improved their overall health and stamina
Lost weight and feel fitter week by week
Built confidence in a completely new environment
Made new friendships they’ll keep for life
Found something they genuinely look forward to every week
Here’s what they had to say:
“You do feel good… you feel great. We didn’t think we’d stick at it, but here we are months later and loving it.”
“Even at 82… we still get there. It might take us time, but we get there.”
What This Means for You
If you’ve ever thought “I’m too old to start” — Diane and Margaret prove that couldn’t be further from the truth.
It’s not about being the best in the room. It’s about showing up, having a go, and getting a little better each week.
